12:00 I still hear explosions - probably missiles - from the east. More and more difficult to believe there are worthwhile targets over there. It may well be that they are just blowing off ordnance. Don't want to return to port with unexpended rounds when this fiasco is over.
My daughter loved playing dominoes with us. She was always one for dominoes, cards and board games with parents and friends. Her crew in the neighborhood, now scattered to various ACC and SEC institutions of higher learning, still convene on holidays to play Sorry, A**hole (card game) and Parcheesi. Sometimes she and her BFF will play bridge with us. Keep on playing.
I can't imagine what those in Ukraine are dealing with. It seems so surreal. I would not have imagined this 3 years ago. And the chatter in the neighborhood is filled with thoughts of Ukraine.
Like Fred Rogers once said (Mr. Rogers Neighborhood) he took comfort from his own Mom's words..."When I was a boy and would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me ' Look for the helpers. you will always find people who are helping. '"
Pres Zelensky has risen in my eyes as a true courageous helper. Nice Babylon Bee reference, too!
I really, really hope that you are right that the war will end soon and that the Ukrainians will win. I'm a bit startled that you are so confident about that, tempting fate a little? This could be ugly and messy for quite some time.
The ones who cannot allow a confession of being wrong belong to the ostrich brigade. The cognitive dissonance is just outstanding. And Graham, as you well know, you have plenty of company here in Camp Wrong! I too was fairly certain it would stop with LNR and DNR. Wrong about that and it certainly won’t be the last time either!
9:00 PM. The rocket attacks have not been heard for a couple of hours.
I understand that Ukraine is going to press charges of war crimes for egregious attacks on civilians. The explosions I heard seemed to come from the eastern suburb of Brovary and the north Kyiv neighborhood of Obolon. Both have no military value to my knowledge. Both have large numbers of apartment buildings. Friends living there say they have been hit.
The fighting in Kyiv last night was small arms, street to street. Rockets would not have been appropriate.
Back in Washington I knew Nancy Patterson, an attorney leading the effort to prosecute Serbia's Slobodan Milosivek for war crimes. It was uphill work. My guess would be this would be no easier. But it should be a caution to Putin to keep a rein on his Chechans under Kadyrov and others with similar reputations for ruthlessness.
There is no doubt that Russia was severely provoked. I wrote about it probably before you subscribed. See Patrick Lancaster's videos from the People's Republics. NATO's advance was unnecessary.
Nevertheless, Putin seriously overreacted. I believe it will cost him his presidency. What I expect doesn't matter a whit. We will all stay tuned and see.

God only knows, but this Monday morning is quiet. Mother-in-law heard explosions about 3:00 AM. I'm up now for 3 hours and hear nothing.
Play Dominos with Zoriana! You’re only young once! Also, you want her to remember the dominos and not the explosions and fear.

I would like to offer you a different perspective. This, in my opinion, is an excellent video--and it's short! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vdiEABLFoo&t=1s
