Okay, Graham. I don't do book reviews really, wouldn't know how. But in the interests of getting this work out there I've attempted something similar and here it is:
I read the book (PDF) and the review. An interesting piece of odd propaganda. Some makes sense, other parts are really a stretch. As with most such things we will never be able to gather all the truth.
One think I checked on Putin has done very well with the Russian economy which suggests that his popularity is not fabricated. The West has not done as well perhaps even more corrupt than we assert Russia is. They don't enjoy quite the Western standard of living but life is generally adequate from what I gather.
Putin's error seems to be getting drawn into Ukraine as the book suggests he was being forced to do.
Just about my thoughts on it, too. Except I'm not qualified to be able to pronounce on parts that are 'really a stretch'. Doesn't matter. What i take from it is that Putin is no monster, he's a patsy. But not a stupid ignorant patsy. They might think he is. I don't.
Both 'ruthless' and 'benevolent' in the same breath. Probably right. Unfortunately for me I don't have enough information/understanding to pronounce on any of that - 'ruthless', 'benevolent', 'holding onto power'.
I have thought he was decidedly benevolent and I would like to continue thinking that.
Hey Graham, might have to check this one out...I have so many books to go through. Have you tried Douglas Murray's new book War on the West? I couldn't bear to bring myself to read the Strange Death of Europe (the comments that I read did indeed say it was a black pill). I like your reviews on Amazon.com and was impressed with the summary of Kevin Macdonald's Individualism and the Western Liberal Tradition: Evolutionary Origins, History, and Prospects for the Future (most of the other reviewers were as well). Have you read his book Culture of Critique? That is the bible of the dissident right
Yes, I have Amazon reviews posted on all three books in MacDonald's trilogy. All a decade back, before the dissident right had coalesced enough to be so titled.
Thanks for calling my attention to that fact. It is ironic that the folks who developed the whole field of anthropology hate being the subject of such analysis.
The only one they didn't nuke was A People That Shall Dwell Alone...but obviously Culture of Critique was the most influential. Do you have all your collections of reviews of book on Amazon? I find your reviews amazing, but I don't know how to search by reviewer.
Pakistan comes from an acronym - P-A-K - Peshawar, Amritsar, Kashmir - which were wholly or predominantly Muslim provinces of British India, which split off in 1947 with the end of the Raj. As for "Smith predicts that military operations in the future will be mostly at the level of irregular warfare", this sounds like William Lind's Fourth Generation Warfare - 4GW - involving primarily non-state actors: https://antarcticaedu.com/4gw.htm and https://fabiusmaximus.com/2014/11/21/william-lind-4gw-war-military-strategy-73112/ and a nice reading list - https://fabiusmaximus.com/books/
I just read a very interesting book. Especially the penultimate chapter: 'The War Against Putin' by M.S.King.
If you write a review, please send a link. More people will invest the time to read a review than an entire book.

Putin appears to be a ruthless, benevolent dictator anxious to hold on to power. He is surrounded by those who ought to protect him.

Can you post your reviews here? The books have been removed from Amazon and also obviously the reviews
