Pakistan comes from an acronym - P-A-K - Peshawar, Amritsar, Kashmir - which were wholly or predominantly Muslim provinces of British India, which split off in 1947 with the end of the Raj. As for "Smith predicts that military operations in the future will be mostly at the level of irregular warfare", this sounds like William Lind's Fourth Generation Warfare - 4GW - involving primarily non-state actors: https://antarcticaedu.com/4gw.htm and https://fabiusmaximus.com/2014/11/21/william-lind-4gw-war-military-strategy-73112/ and a nice reading list - https://fabiusmaximus.com/books/

I just read a very interesting book. Especially the penultimate chapter: 'The War Against Putin' by M.S.King.
