Very interesting idea that birth control pills have a behavioural effect on women. That is worth some serious consideration, it could have broad implications for whole societies.

Hsvr you completely stopped drinking? Not even a glass of wine with your fettuccine?! That is strong willed of you!

Yes, absolutely stopped drinking. Not the first time. I stopped for about three years 1975 – 78, and several times since.

Like my father and grandfather before me, I held my liquor pretty well. Never got drunk, never got into a fight, DWI, or anything similar. This time the decision was on the basis of acid reflux, gallbladder issues and gout.

I learned from those experiences and the advice of friends who acknowledge they are real alcoholics that once you start making small exceptions, bigger ones are sure to follow. I have not had a sip.

I was on the scene to observe how the pill changed women's behavior. Attempting to measure how it affected their emotional makeup would be an impossible task, akin to attempting to measure why reported homosexuality has risen from 1% to above 10% during my lifetime. There are a vast number of factors to consider, and there would be systematic opposition to even asking the question. it's dangerous even to state the observation.

I appreciate that the impact of the pill on women's behaviour and mentality is one of the forbidden topics. But just thinking about it does raise some interesting questions about the route Western civilisation has taken since its widespread use. Society and the relationships between men and women seem to have sharply changed in coincidence with the pill. Curious. I think if people really wanted to, it could be studied but the potential answers are too disturbing for too many people.

It sounds like you've never been dependent on alcohol, you don't really miss it? I don't drink much but I do enjoy a social drink at a dinner party. It's a small pleasure in life. If my health dictated it, I would give up but it would be with a certain regret.
