Fighting for one's farm (or a neighbor's) is much more intense, motivating than fighting for money, or national pride. Seeing your daughter in awful peril, produces a mindset that will fight to the death, no matter how difficult.

It is a valuable book. Must be 40 years since I stumbled on it. I'm on my second copy, which cost much less years back. It explains very clearly that we are the product of evolution. The resultant human nature makes us what we are, conflict and all. He does not anticipate the irrationality: Trivers, Kahneman, Levitt et al.

But free on the Internet. I have a soft copy in Word if anybody wants it.

Not ever sure Amazon is the best place to find certain out-of-print books. I seen some sellers simply taking advantage of that marketplace because it is an easy platform.
