One of you readers of the liberal persuasion has chosen to take me on (again) on the topics of Covid and climate. Here are excerpts from our exchanges on the 23rd and 24th.
Covid
(he) Did you notice Graham that our former President who got Covid when he was unvaccinated came very very close to dying ( many would not have minded off he did) and our fully vaccinated and boosted (and slightly older) President has a bad case of the sniffles. Just one anecdote but a telling one.
(me) He spent 3 nights at Walter Reed, then returned to campaigning. The damn fool took Remdesivir, the deadly Tony Fauci drug, instead of early ivermectin or HCQ. He is lucky to have come back so quickly.
(he, next day) on Climate
Still spreading the Climate lies?
Unprecedented heat waves in Europe
Record setting best in the UK
117 degrees in Athens
Wildfires all over Europe
Massive melt in the Greenland ice sheet
Drought in the US
Lake Mead and the Great Salt Lake drying up
Heat wave across the US
These are facts
These are unprecedented
Nothing to see hear right?
Still got your head in the sand like an Ostrich?
Still believe and spreading the climate lies?
It’s undeniable yet you, Conservatives, Republicans and Joe Manchin keep denying
I know you care about your children but do you really care about the planet they will inherit?
I’m not so sure you do.
<break>
Once again it’s all about you and your little micro climate
Always about you and your little tribe
While you completely ignore what is happening around the world
Read the headlines lately?
It’s undeniable yet you keep denying and actually lying
For a smart guy you’re really pretty clueless(me) You liberals talk so sweetly. I love your charm. <break> Every year throughout recorded history there have been heat waves. You do not know enough science for me to attempt an informed discussion. I'll leave it at this. Many people want you to be scared to advance their own agendas. It works with you.
This kind of scaremongering has been going on as long as I remember. Robert Malone provided this brief summary a couple of days ago.
Here are the logical leaps they ask us to make in the climate change panic
1. Increased temperature will kill us
2. It is caused by CO2 emissions
3. We in the west could reduce CO2 significantly.
I would ask anybody who wants to challenge me on climate to take the following quiz on the parameters of the scientific discussion. If you can’t answer these questions, please don’t waste my time.
It is pointless to have a discussion with people who throw “science” in your face but know nothing about science. It is like arguing with a vaccine fanatic two years ago at the height of the Covid vaccine frenzy. They forget
1. Two weeks to flatten the curve
2. If you are vaccinated, you will not get sick or die
3. If you are vaccinated, you will not transmit the disease
They still argue that there are no adverse effects, as “coincidentally” people die all around them.
The lies we are asked to accept, whether they are about sex and gender, promiscuous money printing, race and crime, Covid or climate seem to follow a pattern. So do liberals’ responses. They never seem to connect the dots, notice that the tissue paper arguments fall apart in a light rain. As has been shown by Deborah Birx’ quixotic book and her acknowledgment about lying with regard to Covid, and as Robert Malone noted above with regard to climate. One day they will argue a point such as the utility of masking until they are blue in the face, and the next day, when the wind has changed, they forget all about it.
Our apple trees are definitely not affected by insecticides. Oksana collected fallen apples last night for me to make a pie. Every one was wormy.
Apple trees somehow know to drop wormy fruit; later on the remaining apples will be better. Still and all, I only had to throw away about a quarter of the fruit. The rest made a very tasty pie, which the children ate for breakfast because they had (coincidentally?) used up all of the milk making banana smoothies last night in the blender.
Our cherry-plum tree is usually dropping fruit like mad this time of year. For whatever reason – cold, rainy spring most likely – there isn’t much. On the other hand, the peach tree is loaded. We looked in vain for the sticks we used three years ago to support the heavy branches. The mulberry and pear trees Oksana planted a few years back are bearing some fruit, and the raspberries are doing well.
On the war front, as those of you who read Bob Homans here know, the front is hardly moving. The Russians are running out of gas, and it appears that the new munitions Ukraine has received are having an impact. I am heartened to read that Ukraine is daring to use its air force close to the front lines. I would infer that they have been successful knocking out anti-aircraft artillery.
The A10 “Warthog” has been a workhorse in every American war since Vietnam. It is slow, heavy, armed to the teeth and almost indestructible. A tank buster. Exactly the tool we need. The USAF has a number of them in mothballs. I am pleased to read that Ukraine may be getting some.
That’s the news from Lake WeBeGone, where the strong man had a quiet weekend licking the wounds acquired in a minor bicycle accident, the good-looking woman managed to get Zoriana to her music lesson Friday with no problems, and Eddie finally managed to float the raft that he is been thinking about for several months.
We really know how to reduce the effects of heat using trees and adding green zones to cities which have become heat islands. Trying to return to 1890 by petro use reduction is impossible in the short term. Trying to force those changes before we are ready just will mean great social turmoil which some are attempting to use for their advantage. We must ask who benefits from this climate emergency nonsense. Humans will adapt as they always have if necessary but we humans are not likely to change nature anytime soon. So odd that the West is being driven to solutions that won't work while continuing to buy more stuff from places that build a coal fired plant weekly to support that production. Will the climate people give up their phones for the cause?
Thanks for the update. It's interesting to hear of your interactions with those who believe the Covid / Global Warming official narratives. I often wonder why they feel compelled to engage. with you.
I suspect their sources of information are largely the MSM, but then how do they come across your substack account. And if they are reading substack, articles, how can they be so uninformed. Quite a puzzle.
In any event, when I learn your thoughts on these matters are under attack, I feel compelled to offer a bit of solidarity. Keep up the good work. I read your column every day and your thoughtful approach to life and its issues are always worthwhile.
