I always enjoy reading your articles from my hideout in the mountains in Idaho.

That's my dream escape, soon as family obligations here permit: 2-3 years out.

1. I don't like it that Igor disobeyed you about the butane.

I completely respect your prudent desire to bring a relative closer to your family.

But I would keep an eye on him. I foresee you will be forced to assert yourself against him.

2. I completely respect and affirm your desire to give Eddie a well rounded education.

But from all you write of him, that kid is mechanically, manually (working with his hands), gifted.

You might consider also having him trained in the mechanical, manual, arts.

Such skills will surely be valuable in the coming collapse you foresee.

I think that Igor just didn't get it. However, you are right that he tends to do things his own way.

I agree about Eddie. He is like my father in that. However, even working with your hands you have to have the ability to read what others have done. I appreciate the mechanical gift, but will continue to push reading.

Colchicine is my go to for arriving gout attacks. Usually two small tabs work at the earliest sign of it's arrival. Colchicine is some really old trusted medication, likely OTC outside of the US.

Expert glass blowers are always in demand in scientific institutions to create specialized gear. It can be a quite complex art to master and hard to find skilled people. Nominally they are trained by other artisans near career end.

Aha! I bought colchicine, but the gout has not been bad enough that I took any yet. I'll hang onto it! With regard to Igor's career, I'll have to ask him. I know a retired scientific glassblower from Princeton, and he was indeed highly regarded and well paid.

The instant I sense that heat starting, I use two tabs and wait. I have never had to take more beyond two more. I am also taking Allopurinal daily b/c CKD3 after chemo did some damage.

Just a quick side comment. A few years ago, we toured the Waterford factory in Ireland. The stemware is made in the Czech Republic, but everything else is done in Waterford. And yep, everything (vases, decanters, etc) was hand blown (and hand cut). They have folks that specialize in making the wooden molds for the glass since they don't last that long with red-hot glass.
