The US does a lot of squirrely stuff in client countries. I question whether Zelensky would have been aware of it. If he was, it was surely among a lot of other unsavory stuff that the US, NATO et. al. impose on others.
Yes, I watched the Oliver Stone movie and reviewed "MH17 and the New Cold War." to the same point. I thoroughly distrust the both sides. Tend now to think, having seen what the Russians have done in this war, that Stone was taken in by propaganda. Don't want to argue the point - there is more evidence both ways than I want to get involved with.
Daily Expose has been hammering it as well. I expect Ukraine was a location of convenience. Far away, not tightly scrutinized, and beholden to the US in multiple ways.
Please comment on the opinion of retired Colonel Douglas McGregor. He seems like a man of integrity outside of the Military Industrial Complex but still gets info from his friends on the inside. According to him there is no possible way the Ukraine or America comes out of this situation with a win. He believes even the mainstream media is starting to bow out gracefully instead of escalating the conflict to a world war. McGregor is a rare creature among warmongers like Lindsay Graham. Even General Miley himself is having second thoughts currently.
McGregor has been consistently, stridently wrong since the beginning of the war. Rather like Gonzalo Lira, Mike Whitney and Paul Craig Roberts. Most of them started being wrong back in 2014. Take a close look at his track record.
You have to read them all. Sometimes they have a point, and you would be dumb to believe whatever is coming out of the White House or Pentagon on any subject.
Thanks for responding. I am open minded about Colonel McGregor and his opinions. I haven't noticed anything so far I could argue against him, in my limited knowledge of this subject. Whatever the White House and MSM report, I believe the opposite. That goes for the partisan imbecile John Kirby as well. Are you aware of the Oliver Stone documentary about the history of Ukraine? I don't agree with anybody about all their opinions but I glean bits and pieces of truth even from people like Stone and Alex Jones. I wish you and your young family well into the future in your adopted country.
McGregor's claims seem to be a bit wrong. At one point I agreed that US troops should have minimal direct involvement as McGregor and Tucker noted. But both have gone a bit too far in predicting Ukraine to lose this war. To lose means to give up ground. I do hope that some arrangement can be reached to allow Russia to continue use of it's base as previously agreed. At this point I can't imagine the Donbas nor Crimea wishing to be controlled by Russia. I just hope that the US and EU can arrive on a war footing in terms of production; that might cause China a pause.
The basing agreement was the fatal flaw in 2014. The Russian "little green men" were able to take over Crimea without a fight. That's a non-starter if Ukraine regains Crimea. IMHO Russia's days as a world power are over and Ukraine would be well to let them have Crimea and the People's Republics and watch them fall of their own weight. It won't happen. The Ukrainians are thoroughly tired of and distrustful of the Russians. There is a strong will to push them all the way out.
While that base allowed the green men to enter and then conduct an independence "vote", that still can be renegotiated once Putin gives up his quest. Crimea seems to me to be a island dependent on base income and tourists. Returning all that to the pre-2014 status seems possible. If Ukraine can be successful in driving the Russians mostly out, perhaps Russia can be mollified by retention of the base.
That would not sit well with any Ukrainian I know. It may be foolhardy, but Ukrainians are mad and don't want any half measures. They have never worked in the past.
I suspect the Russians may get that accommodation from Zelenski. Don't know how he will spin the "gift", but he knows the base income is critical to the area, and of all thing dear to the Russians that base is key.
