Sure, as if a war can ever be won. The politicians decide to go to war and they also decide to end it. One side hopes it can destroy enough to cause people to give up so that side can declare victory. Not clear if UA citizens are even close to breaking.

The West hopes that the Russians will see they can't afford to continue but few wars ever ended because they were expensive. This one might be different because the Russian economy wasn't robust before the war and is much worse now. Russia has been set back a good 30 years and rebuilding the economy will be hard on them.

Being wrong is part of free speech. Kyiv is quiet this morning for the first time in a month. It is not a Russian victory.

Being wrong in the face of repeated, clear and overwhelming facts and evidence to the contrary is fascinating. To see the doubling down on the wrongness as new contradictory facts come in, makes me consider political analysis in a whole new light.
