I am heartbroken about Naomi. It silently tears me apart. I really liked her and I am deeply saddened by her passing.

She disappeared into the dead of winter:

The brooks were frozen, the airports almost deserted,

And snow disfigured the public statues;

The mercury sank in the mouth of the dying day.

What instruments we have agree

The day of her death was a dark cold day.

She was at her best when you met her. The rest of the story is out there to be read, but it is moot at this point. Let's remember the good.

All well & good , we the US Empire , should not be there period . No war , we are indeed the aggressors all over the world . The Us empire will walk away from the pitiful Ukraine & go on to the next one , China & then possibly Iran .

We are a wounded rabid animal striking out all over . Very sad

Yes, but what you write is equally applicable to Russia. As I wrote, Russia has been the aggressor in all of its wars, even World War II before Hitler turned on them. Two wounded, rabid animals. "Pitiful Ukraine" is in between them.

Ukraine's neighbors are our most ardent supporters. They lived under Russian domination until 35 years ago. It was hell.

Joe Sobran is my husbands brother .

We share same philosophies & politics.

Wow! Mine too. Joe died before I wrote my couple of articles for AmRen and vDARE, but I enjoyed his courageous, uncompromising takes.

Dear Graham , I agree with most things you discuss here except for your stand on Russia . I lift you up in prayer on the loss of your beautiful daughter , very sad & tragic . I have understanding of what you are going through with the loss of a child , I lost my youngest son 18 yrs ago in an accident. May Christ be with you & your family .

Thank you. You can parse my stand on Russia into stands on neocons and NATO, the EU, Ukraine and Russia. I expect we would find some common ground.

Sobran, not a common name, was borne by one of my heroes. Any relation?

You have a different opinion about Russia because you don't really know anything about Ukraine, like most people. Whenever I hear the arguments against supporting Ukrainian efforts to stop the Russian invasion, I am struck by the lack of knowledge of all those who want to stop western support of Ukraine against tyranny and Russian aggression. Suffice to say that Ukrainians have been fighting for 300 years to get out from under Russian boots. And Ukrainians ask only for help so that they can be free of Russian repression which they have suffered for three centuries.

Oh life. Oh life and death.

I haven't listened to the Peterson vid on depopulation. Already know it will only frustrate and certainly not illuminate.

Best.

It is the right topic to be discussing. You and I need to educate and position our children in the world so they can find and support spouses and families. While we would like to see them among the educated strata of society, that is precisely where they will be subject to the most damaging messages and the worst temptations. How to overcome it?

Yes, agree.

As Twain famously said (and is oft quoted:) "Never let your schoolin' get in the way of your education". (or close to that)

We have to educate ourselves. Academia is gone, fully hijacked and I don't think survives another 5 years. We'll see. But that degree won't mean what it has in the coming years. IMO

Education here has a number of weaknesses, but woke does not appear to be among them. Besides which it is cheap.

Why will it not illuminate? You judge it before hearing the podcast.

I've listened to and read a decent amount of Peterson, so I have a good feel, but I take your point.

I read Naomi's obituary, and she sounded like a bright and promising person and a loss to the world. You mentioned that you had hoped to add to it. If you haven't already said what you intended here, perhaps you could consider doing so, and then your readers would see it? The loss of a child is so hard.

Tutors were one of the many battles I lost to my former wife. I was fully capable of helping the kids back then, just as I am now homeschooling my son. However, all of the other students had tutors at $15 an hour. By the time they got into middle school the kids knew that they did not have to accept discipline from their old man, and that he could be browbeaten into paying for whatever professional help they asked for.

The tutors were easier going than Dear Old Dad. They got paid by the hour, and they were not expected to be building character. The other two kids were soft and let the tutors do most of the work.

It is to Naomi's credit that she saw through the whole thing and had the integrity to do the work herself.

She was bright. She often said that her job was to keep the PhDs from screwing up too badly. I expect she was right, and also expect she was not too politic about not puncturing big egos. Glad you read the obit. I think it is as positive as could be written. As it should be.

I would remember one other passion. She loved modern dance. And another. She was the only one of three who doggedly insisted on doing all her own work. No tutors, no help from Dad. She worked things through.
