I'm going to repeat the opinion that Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi have the most intelligent, balanced views of this war in Ukraine. Here is an excellent long piece from Greenwald today. The same media and political establishment that forced Putin into a war is working to escalated into a nuclear war. Stop the madness! And please subscribe to these guys – they have a whole lot more clout than I do, and numbers count.
This is a short blog, but a necessary one. Just repeat. Russia's planning for this war was abysmal. Whatever plan they had is clearly not succeeding. The Russian people are waking up to the magnitude of the problem. Ukrainian morale is high, and Russian soldiers are not enthusiastic about the fight.
If the West gets involved, via a no-fly zone or military action, it will give Putin an excuse to escalate even further. That is the last thing we need.
The simple truth is that Russia cannot occupy Ukraine. The whole citizenry is against them. Everybody hates the Russian troops. They all know it. Ukraine does not want to be Russian again. The word is certainly getting back to the people in Russia by whatever channels.
Please, please don't let the media and political leaders who pushed Putin so hard that he started this question once again to an unacceptable level of escalation.
Is there a connection between the Ukraine war and Covid? A lot of people think so. I have been following Edward Slavsquat (Riley Waggaman) and Robert Malone on the Covid issue for several months. They are both now weighing in heavily with regard to the war.
Waggaman writes from Moscow and has very insightful pieces of information you won't see elsewhere. Canadian Regis Tremblay is an ardent apologist for Russia. While I'm adamantly on the other side with regard to this war, he does raise legitimate points. You should pay attention to how Russia was provoked.
I've got to say, Putin was not forced into anything. There was no imminent prospect of Ukraine joining NATO or the EU. There was no threat or danger. He made a free choice. I agree that the West should be very careful not to directly get involved, escalation would be appalling but I don't agree that Putin was forced into anything. He made a calculated move because he thought it would pay off. Looks like he might be wrong.
Two things, I don't think Russia's intent has ever been to occupy Ukraine. They want to force Ukraine to commit to neutrality by refusing to become a member of NATO and the EU. Secondly, there is a lot of propaganda out there about how this war is going. And, although, Russia has not blitzkrieged through Ukraine, I think there is little doubt Russia will win this war in the end. Zelensky or whoever will be representing Ukraine in these talks would be well served to reach an agreement immediately. Doing so will minimize the cost inflicted on civilians caught up this war.
