Here is their piece for yesterday.
As I write this at 9:49 AM, Kyiv has been under an air raid alert for six hours. There were muffled explosions during the night, some quite loud ones about half an hour ago.
I don’t see news yet over the Internet. As a by-the-way for foreign subscribers, you will usually get more recent news by searching in Ukrainian. You have to give a date or you will get old news. Put the current date into this search “ракете в київ 26.08.2024”. Also search on kyivpost.com. They are usually fairly up to date.
Let me reassure you that the explosions were still perhaps a mile away, and most such explosions we hear turn out to be anti-missile systems successfully intercepting what the Russians have sent. If you don’t read about significant damage, there probably was not much.
Enjoyed the detail in this paper about Wolves of Wall Street. " Viktor Yanukovich, going after the loser, Yulia Tymoshenko" - Glad to get more about that corruption. Using unlimited money, Mueller finally got Manafort, a long time foe. Manafort had built an elaborate structure to hide his wealth. Maybe Biden learned from that. Hope Trump became wiser as well.
My daughter will be pleased that the kindle version of the book was cheaper than a used hardcover!
Just as I post this (10:01) the Kyiv Post has an article "Ukraine under massive missile attack." Most major cities, including the center of Kyiv. The main targets are civilians, as always. I read such attacks as expressions of frustration on Putin's part. His army is being thwarted, so attack the defenseless civilians. It won't win the war, and only strengthens our resolve.
Alarm ended at 13:45. It had started about 3:00 in the morning. Amazingly long. The news reports that infrastructure was the primary target. We were without power for almost four hours. For all that, only three dead. Mostly in an apartment building in Lutsk which appears to have been intentially targeted.
Alarm again at 14:20. Putin is going for a record. He has apparently used Iranian Shahid drones, cheap but fairly easily repelled, sea launched cruise missiles, air launched supersonic "dagger" missiles and big subsonic ones, Kh-101 in his attacks this morning. Timing makes sense only in that it is our Independence Day. On the other hand, we are exiting air conditioning season and a long way from heating season. We have proven pretty adept at fixing our grid.
Sometimes you have to take punches from a bully, content in the knowledge that he is wasting his energy, wearing himself out.
