Halloween in Ukraine
Andrey Kurkov, Ukraine’s most famous novelist, describes how life continues in the midst of the war (attached).
They Came From Shangri-La
Saturday morning’s attack on ships of the Black Sea Fleet in the harbor of Sevastopol, Occupied Crimea by unmanned seagoing drones reminds me of when, after the bombing of Tokyo by Col. Doolittle’s B-25s flying off the flight deck of the aircraft carrier “Hornet,” someone asked Pres. Roosevelt where the bombers came from. Pres. Roosevelt’s answer was, “they came from Shangri-La.” Later, the U.S. Navy christened an aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Shangri La.
The loss of ships of the Black Sea Fleet, even if temporary, will reduce the number of cruise missiles Russia can launch against cities in Central and Western Ukraine.
