The “Behind Blue Eyes” Project
The Behind Blue Eyes Project was started by 2 Ukrainians, Artem & Dima, both of whom have backgrounds in the entertainment industry. They work with children in liberated towns in the Chernihiv Region (80 miles northeast of Kyiv), along the original Russian invasion route toward Kyiv. They were interviewed by the Daily Telegraph for their “Ukraine-The Latest” podcast. The interview starts at around 26:40 into the podcast.
Artem and Dima supply 9 children living in these recently liberated towns with disposable cameras. The photographs are posted on Instagram, people are asked to donate, and the proceeds go to purchase gifts for the children. Some interesting takeaways:
· Artem and Dima have done this in 4 villages.
· Unlike the photographs on the project’s web site, they said that most of the photographs are of family members, flowers, etc., and not war related.
· According to Artem and Dima, when the children viewed the prints, they became more open about their experiences.
· Gifts included pets including a parrot, a trip to a water park, but they didn’t ask for computers.
It is projects like this, going on throughout Ukraine, that contribute to Ukraine’s victory, because they will never accept Russian domination.
News From The Battlefield
The Left Bank of the Dnipro – Ukraine continues to press outward. This report from Ukrainska Pravda describes Ukraine taking 3 villages and a section of the road that connects towns along the left bank, limiting Russia’s resupply capabilities.
The Grain Corridor – Ukraine has temporarily closed the grain corridor due to increased Russian aviation activity. According to this article in Ukrainska Pravda, shippers are upset by Ukraine’s action, stating that it idles ships and decreasing the prices that buyers pay for the commodities.
The “Latest Denys” – Unlike the encounters described in the Sitrep, Denys states that there is relatively little activity along the front, at least what is being reported by the Defense Ministry.
