Kremenchuk Missile Strike

Earlier today, 2 Russian missiles hit a shopping center in the city of Kremanchuk, southeast of Kyiv.   According to reports there were approximately 1,000 people in the shopping center at the time the missiles hit.  The latest count is 10 dead.  Expect the casualty count to rise.

Kremenchuk is the location of Ukraine largest oil refinery, which to my knowledge has been hit twice and it is currently out of commission.  It’s possible, though unlikely, that the missiles were bound for the refinery but, given that the refinery is out of commission and the number of strikes against civilian targets throughout Ukraine in the last 24 – 48 hours, it seems that the shopping center was the target.   Russia seems intent on engaging in terror tactics against civilians.

Times Radio – Gen. Richard Shirreff

This is a very interesting interview with the former Deputy NATO Supreme Allied Commander/Europe.   Gen. Shirreff was asked to respond to the goal expressed today by Pres. Zelenskyy at the G-7 meeting, that the war should be over by the end of the year.

·       Gen. Shirreff called Zelenskyy’s goal a “big ask,” but one that should be articulated.

·       He said that Zelenskyy’s goal was possible, but it would require a complete re-thinking by NATO, but it depends on what comes out of the NATO meeting in Madrid.

·       To achieve the goal, he said it would require the establishment of 6-9 heavy brigades of up to 5,000 men each (British Army standard), plus all the support including artillery.

·       Gen. Shirriff called pushing Russia back to the February 23 lines, in both the Donbas and the South, would be a significant “tactical defeat” for Russia, and re-taking occupied Donbas and Crimea a “strategic retreat.”

·       He expects NATO to announce an upgraded force along its eastern border of 300,000 troops.

·       He said NATO must be ready for the “worst case,” which he said is war with Russia.

·       Gen. Sherriff said that there would be no peace in Europe until Putin, and Putinism, no longer holds sway in the Kremlin.

INTERNATIONAL

Lithuania was prepared in advance for Russia's antics in connection with blocking the transit of sanctioned goods by rail to the Kaliningrad region,"- said Lithuanian political scientist Vitis Jurkonis.  "It's not a matter of choice, but we must understand that the main focus should still be on the war in Ukraine and support there,"- said the political scientist.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer commented on the shelling of Kyiv by Russian troops on June 26.  Nehammer stressed that the photographs that were handed over to the Austrians from Vitaliy Klytschko's office have been verified and confirmed as genuine.   "The brutal rocket attacks on civilians are unbearable. I do not understand how it is possible commit such crimes. The bloodshed must finally stop,"- he said.

Russians complain that Russian-language TV channels have disappeared from the broadcast network in Turkish hotels, primarily news channels.  This is explained by the fact that most channels in Türkiye are broadcast through German providers, and Russian channels are disconnected from the broadcast package due to sanctions.

Haberturk TV:  Turkish Presidential Spokesman:  Turkey will not join the sanctions against Russia.  “We cannot do this, as it will hit our economy first of all. On the other hand, we have a mediating role, because everything goes through Turkey,"

●        Agreements can be reached: Erdogan will meet with the leaders of Sweden and Finland, as well as the NATO Secretary General.  "At the request of the NATO Secretary General, a quadripartite meeting will be held in Madrid at the level of leaders of heads of state with the participation of our president. Certain agreements can be reached at it".

NHK TV:  Japan will expand sanctions against the Russian Federation by adding about 160 more individuals and legal entities to the lists.  In addition, the Japanese parliament banned the sale of goods to 90 organizations that are related to the defense sector - channel.

Reuters:  NATO will increase military assistance to Ukraine; this decision is expected from the three-day summit in Madrid.  Diplomats say NATO leaders hope to agree on increased military aid to Ukraine, increased joint defense spending, cementing new resolve to counter China's military rise, and deploying more troops to defend the Baltic states.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman:  Britain is preparing for a nuclear war with the Russian Federation.  “The British establishment never gets tired of preparing for a nuclear apocalypse" in order to "divert attention from the internal political collapse of the British monarchy in the light of endless conspiracies, crises and simply corruption scandals.

Bloomberg:   Russia - default on external debt for the first time in 104 years.  “Russia is defaulting on its sovereign foreign-currency debt for the first time in a century [the last was in 1918], the culmination of increasingly severe Western sanctions that have cut off the path of payments to foreign creditors.”  June 26, the grace period for the payment of interest payments in the amount of $100 million, which had to be paid by May 27, expired.

CNN:  The US Secretary of State said that the goal of the Russian president was to end the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, erase it from the map of the world and include it in Russia.  A "tactical brutal battle" is now underway in the east, but a sovereign, independent Ukraine will last longer than Putin, Blinken said.

New York Times:  The US plans to announce the purchase of an advanced medium-to-long-range anti-aircraft missile system for Ukraine. Ukrainian officials have requested the NASAMS missile defense system.  Other military assistance may also be announced, which includes additional artillery ammunition and counter-battery radars.

ZDF TV:  The President of the European Commission opposes the boycott of the G20 autumn summit if Vladimir Putin participates.

The Times:  A unit of the Ukrainian special operations forces performs sabotage tasks on the territory of the Russian Federation, in particular, to destroy ammunition depots and oil storage facilities.

French television published an interview with a French volunteer from the Ukrainian "International Legion".   According to volunteer Karel, there are already dozens of French dead.

Russian "TV presenter" Vladimir Solovyov called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz a moth, and he also expressed regret about the reunification of Germany.

Latvian National Armed Forces:  Spanish Nasams anti-aircraft missile systems have been deployed in Latvia to protect the Baltic region.

PKP Intercity:  Poland cancels free rail travel for Ukrainians from July 1.  The current rules for issuing free tickets for refugees from Ukraine will be valid until Thursday, June 30.

European Council President:  The Russian government is deliberately provoking a global food crisis on the planet, using food as a weapon in war

Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine:  Russia is increasing its military presence in Belarus.  The leadership of institutions and organizations of the Gomel region was warned about the likelihood of the return of units of the RF Armed Forces. At the same time, the Russians are planning to increase the number of operational-tactical aviation on the territory of Belarus.  Officially - to conduct joint air patrols within the framework of a joint combat training center for training aviation units and air defense units. For this, a flight of 10 aircraft to the Baranovychi airfield is planned.

Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius reacted to the yesterday morning’s shelling of Kyiv.  "Russian missiles hit residential areas in the center of Kyiv. Messages and reminders for the G7 summit in Germany. Russia today is a disease and should be treated accordingly. No compromises or negotiations. Just block everything until the war machine runs out," -he tweeted.

US President Joe Biden reacted to today's missile attack on Kyiv.  "The Russian missile attacks on Kyiv are yet another manifestation of their barbarity, - he said.

DW:  The G7 summit has opened in Germany. The war in Ukraine will be one of the main topics.

●        During the summit, there may be talk of an analogue of the "Marshall Plan" for Ukraine. New sanctions against Russia are also expected to be discussed. In particular, some G7 countries have already agreed to ban the import of Russian gold.

●        Twitter:  German Chancellor - We remain united, we remain together. This is our clear message to President Putin. Welcome US President Joe Biden to the G7 summit.

●        Participants of the G7 summit before the start of the meeting joked about the photo of Putin with a naked torso on horseback.  Boris Johnson invited G7 leaders to strip to the waist, while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went even further and offered to saddle their horses.

●        Askanews:  At the G7 summit, Italian Prime Minister Draghi announced the need to introduce a ceiling on prices for energy imports from Russia and eliminate dependence on the Russian Federation.

European Council President: The EU will study the issue of joining the ban on gold imports from Russia, which is planned to be introduced by the UK, Canada, the US and Japan.  We are ready to watch, study. See if it's possible to target the Russian economy without hurting our economy in some way.  The EU is cautious about banning Russia from gold and capping oil prices.

The UK will act as a guarantor of a $525 million loan to Ukraine, the press service of the British government reports.  This loan will cover the cost of public sector salaries, as well as the maintenance of schools and hospitals.

●        While Russia's main operational focus remains the Severodonetsk-Lysychansk pocket, a week of consistently heavy shelling suggests Russia is now trying to increase momentum on the northern Izium axis.

●        Ukrainian forces continue to hold the line in that sector, making good use of forested terrain to assist their defence

●        Over the coming weeks, Russia's campaign will highly likely increasingly rely on echelons of reserve forces.  These consist of several distinct components, which Russia has almost certainly already started to field.

●        Russia's Combat Army Reserve is a recent innovation of part- time but volunteer reservists, which deploy as whole units typically ear-marked for rear area security tasks. It is made up of part-time volunteer reservists.

●        The mobilization manpower reserve is a significant reserve of veterans who have served in the regular forces over the past five years. The Russian authorities are likely to use volunteers from this category to replenish the third battalions in the regular brigades.

Ukraine asked Switzerland to help with the provision of consular services for Ukrainians in Russia.  This was stated in an interview with the Swiss media by the President of the Swiss Confederation, Ignazio Cassis.

First Deputy Ministry of Agrarian Policy:  Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has already stolen at least 400,000 tons of grain from the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi discussed with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a further increase in defense support for Ukraine.

Ukrainian Defense Minister:  The condition for the resumption of dialogue between the West and the Russian Federation can only be the demilitarization of the European part of the aggressor state.

Prosecutor General:  The Russian troops commit 100-200 war crimes in Ukraine every day

The Ukrainian State Security Service intercepted new Russian Federal Security Bureau training manuals: Russian officials teach them how to properly praise Putin and comment on the war in Ukraine.  The document has a note "for strict use". Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine:  Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers from the Caspian Sea region were used in Kyiv. They take off from the Astrakhan region.  These bombers have Kh-101 missiles that can hit targets as far away as 5.5 thousand km.

CHERNIHIV

LUHANSK

Mayor: The Russians attacked Slovyansk, Donetsk region, at night.  Houses and power lines were damaged, part of the city was left without electricity. There is no information about the victims.

Regional Military Administration:  As a result of Russian shelling in the Donetsk region on Sunday, one civilian was killed, 8 more were injured.

Advisor to the mayor of Mariupol:  When examining buildings in the Livoberezhnyi district, in a house with an air bomb hit at the intersection of Victory avenue and Blvd. The Russians discovered more than 100 bodies of those who died from the bombardment.  Exhumation continues. Priority is given to schoolyards and kindergartens. After exhumation, the odor pits are treated here. No decoration is carried out on the streets and yards after exhumations. The number of people injured in a Russian missile attack in Kyiv has risen to 6. Four people were hospitalized. The mother of a seven-year-old girl, a citizen of the Russian Federation, is in a state of moderate severity.

State Emergency Service:  As of 15:00, some local fires in the nine-storey residential building in Kyiv, which was damaged as a result of the shelling, have been eliminated.
