Full List of U.S. Military Assistance to Ukraine
You can find this at the beginning of today’s Sitrep, later in this email. Don’t miss it! It is quite an impressive list, even without ATACMS missiles and F-16s.
“Defense in Depth”/ ”The Telegraph”
“Defense in Depth” is a weekly summary of the war and the underlying conditions by Dominic Nichols, Associate Editor of “the Telegraph and a former British Army tank commander. If there is any video that it is worth watching more than once, especially if one wants to understand why Ukraine will win, this is the one.
He starts his summary with the simple phrase, “Armies don’t fight wars; nations fight wars.” Nichols spends much of the rest of his summary by postulating that Ukraine deeply understands this phrase; Russia doesn’t. Ukraine’s embrace of the meaning of this phrase is why Ukraine will win.
In previous emails, and in the webinar we gave last March, we have stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ukrainian Civil Society, and the Ukrainian population at large, as joined at the hip. We have suggested that to really understand why Ukraine will win this war it is necessary to understand what happened during the 2013/2014 Revolution of Dignity, when the Ukrainian Army was reborn and Ukrainian Civil Society was, collectively, the midwife.
In an interview I did last July, almost a year ago, with the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative, I stressed the many of the same points Nichols made, including “I believe based to this history of the determination and strength of the Ukrainian people, Ukraine was able to build up its Army from almost nothing in the eight years between Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014 to today.”
Letter From Ukraine Civil Society Groups to NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg
This letter is an example of the role that Civil Society plays in Ukraine. Ukraine wants a binding commitment from NATO for admission to membership. Ukraine also wants security guarantees and a waiver of the requirement for a Membership Action Plan, as was given to both Finland and Sweden. Ukraine doesn’t want a repeat of 2008, when Ukraine and Georgia were offered memberships sometime in the future.
News From the Battlefield
The latest from “Reporting From Ukraine” describes the increasing resilience, and depth, of the Ukrainian incursion across the Dnieper River in front of Kherson City. They’ve been able to throw back several Russian counterattacks, and at the same time increase their numbers using small boats to ferry troops across the Dnieper. At some point soon Ukraine will have to make the decision as to whether and where to construct pontoon bridges, allowing Ukraine to move heavy equipment across the Dnieper.
Ukrainian Fire Bases/Times Radio – This video covers the activities of a Ukrainian fire base near Bakhmut. The video shows the use of the “Bohdana” howitzer that is made in Ukraine. It is built to NATO standards and fires a 155mm shell. After the war, there will likely be increased demand for the Bohdana from international buyers.

Russian Invasion of Ukraine 12:00 noon July 6 to 12:00 noon July 7, 2023
Prior to jumping to the News I am printing a news release to illustrate the absolute waste of contemporary warfare. However, even with the below, and probably an equivalent amount from all other sources including the Ukrainian budget and stockpiles, even more is needed. I for one will do all I can to assure that the supplies arrive and Ukraine wins. The putler and the rashists need to pay for this waste.
