Webinar Reminder
Celebration of the 1-Year Anniversary of Ukraine’s Predicted Demise
February 28, 2023 (1PM EST, 56PM in London, 8PM in Kyiv, and 10AM PST)
Russian President Putin and many Western pundits predicted with certainty that Ukraine would capitulate after no more 5 days of Russia’s most recent invasion of Ukraine. Instead of marking the 1 year anniversary of the start of Russia’s latest invasion, as many others are doing, we decided to mark the 1-year anniversary of the day of Ukraine’s expected capitulation.
We want to do what we can to honor the brave heroes of Ukraine, consisting not just of soldiers of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, but all Ukrainians, and all Ukraine’s partners, including countries supplying weapons, private groups and individuals who provide humanitarian assistance, who togther proved President Putin and all the pundits wrong. Last but not least, all of you, our loyal readers.
Panelists will be the 2 authors of the emails that you’ve been getting almost daily since February 24, 2022. The Moderator will be Larysa Homans, executive coach, mentor, former member of the Faculty of Kyiv Mohilya Business School, experienced moderator and, in the interest of full disclosure, the wife of one of the authors. We will both make short introductory statements, the Moderator will then ask both of us questions, and then we will open the floor to questions.
The webinar will be conducted on Zoom. The Zoom link is here. The Zoom meeting ID is - 830 1184 0497, and the Zoom passcode: 449343. If you’re dialing in you may need these to join the meeting.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty and support. We look forward to your participation.
Slava Ukrainii!!!
A Dud
During the recent visit of President Biden to Kyiv, the Russian Federation tested an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. Fittingly, it was a dud. Putin had been planning to announce the test during his speech yesterday.
3 Girls
Last night I was watching CNN’s coverage of Ukraine. There was a segment about a village in the Kharkiv Region that is in danger of being a focus of a Russian offensive. The center of the village had just been heavily damaged by a Russian S-300 missile. 3 teenage girls were walking down the street, when they were stopped by the CNN correspondent. They were laughing. The correspondent asked them why they and their families weren’t evacuating because of the possible Russian offensive. One of the girls said, “my father is a farmer. He has to stay because now is the beginning of planting season.” I cannot think of a more Ukrainian response. God bless them all!
“NATO’s New Center of Gravity” by Chels Michta/Politico
Chels Michta is a recipient of our emails, so we’re always honored to give shoutouts to all recipients who publish articles relating to Ukraine.
Michta argues that NATO’s center of gravity has changed, from the large Western European NATO members to the East, including Poland, the Baltics, The Czech Republic, and others, plus Finland and Sweden who are in the process of joining NATO.
News From the Battlefield
“Reporting From Ukraine” covers explosions near temporarily occupied Mariupol, in and around Russian ammunition dumps and troop concentrations. He believes that the explosions were caused by new long-range glide bombs, part of a previously announced U.S. arms package, that can be launched by the HIMARS launchers. The maximum range of the HIMARS missiles, 80 km, are not long enough to hit these sites. If “Reporting From Ukraine” is correct then there is no Russian installation located in southern Ukraine, between the Dnieper River and Mariupol, and as far south as the entrances to Crimea, that is beyond the range of these new missiles. According to “Reporting From Ukraine,” the attacks likely stopped the transfer of Russian troops from the areas around Donetsk, and Wagners from Bakhmut, to Vulhudar where Russia had suffered catastrophic reversals.
The Latest Denys talks about a possible Russian airborne attack designed to overthrow the Government of Moldova and forestall a Ukrainian attack against the enclave of Transnistria, where there are approximately 1,500 Russian “peacekeepers.” It is likely that we’ll see new Ukrainian attacks against Russian bases in Crimea, that would be likely staging areas for such an assault.
There are Ukrainian troops deployed along the border of Transnistria. On May 2nd, 2014 Transnistria was a likely staging area for a Russian “false flag” assault against nearby Odesa. The attack failed, and 42 Russians, and/or Russian proxies, died when the building where they had fled caught fire. The Russian/Russian proxies were armed, furthering the theory that they came from Transnistria. The incident became a major source of Russian propaganda, alleging that the events in Odesa was an example of Ukrainian discrimination against Russian speakers.
According to reports, there are large quantities of Soviet ammunition stored in Transnistria. The question would likely be if it would be possible for Ukrainians to keep order in Transnistria once Russian peacekeepers are taken prisoner.
