“Ukraine’s Guerrilla War Against Ukraine is Making Putin Pay a High Price,” by Alexander Motyl. His article lists several partisan attacks against Russian forces and civilian collaborators.
· The planning for partisan action in Southern Ukraine, in the territory often referred to as the “land bridge” from southern Russia to Crimea, has been going on for over 7 years. I first learned about it in January 2015, from a former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine. In the Spring of 2014, many believed that Russia would try to annex this territory, located along the Sea of Azov. It is likely that the Russians believed that the local population, largely Russian speaking, would do it for them. They were wrong.
· As Motyl describes, partisan attacks are taking place all over temporarily occupied Ukraine, including Luhansk Oblast, the portions of Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts that have been occupied since 2014, Mariupol, Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov, and even in several places in Crimea where a drone damaged the HQ of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, forcing Russia to call off Navy Day celebrations.
· It is quite possible that weapons deliveries to Ukraine, that Western observers say are being stolen or diverted, are in fact ending up in the hands of Ukrainian partisans and they are helping to fuel the rising level of partisan attacks.
Partisan attacks described by Motyl are taking on a life of their own, and they are one more indication that even in the very unlikely event of a ceasefire being negotiated between Ukraine and Russia, involving Ukraine ceding territory, Ukraine will keep fighting. Countries like Germany, France, Turkey, and elements in the United States, need to understand this.
The Latest Denys (2 videos)
In his latest, Denys believes that Russia now has as many as 30,000 troops on the Right Bank of the Dnieper River in Kherson Oblast. Denys thinks that Russia will launch an offensive against Mykolaiv and Kryvyi Rih, with the objective of trying to get Germany and France to force Ukraine to the negotiating table. He thinks that because Ukraine can cut off the Russians operating on the Right Bank, Russia will be defeated. It seems as if Russia may have come the same conclusion, as reports suggest that Russia is setting up booby traps at critical infrastructure sites in Kherson City, as if to prepare for an eventual re-taking of Kherson.
This is a 2nd video, very short, shows what happens to a Russian Kamaz truck when it hits a landmine. If seen another report implying that this may’ve been a suicide attempt by the driver.
Times Radio (2 broadcasts)
What if Russia is defeated? - Interview with Sir Richard Barrons, former Head of the UK’s Joint Forces Command. I think that there are many in the West, including a few in senior policy-making positions, who are more afraid of a Ukrainian victory than a Ukrainian defeat, and what a Ukrainian victory might cause inside Russia, causing them to want a “negotiated settlement.”
Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant – Interview with Laura Rockwood, Director of the Open Nuclear Network. Russia is now storing weapons and supplies in the reactor complex. It is becoming clear that Russia is engaging in a form of nuclear blackmail.

10:40: Russia has already used 50% of its resources in the war, says American diplomat, former special representative of the US State Department for Ukraine, Kurt Volker.
● “Russia has already used about 50% of its trained military and weapons. Their military capabilities have been dramatically reduced. That’s good, but now they’re using less accurate weapons, and they’re hitting more civilian targets. But on the other hand, they are less likely to hit the military, so their abilities are reduced.”
08:03: The British edition of “The Times” called “Putin’s propagandists” the international human rights organization Amnesty International, which accused the Armed Forces of Ukraine that they are allegedly hiding behind the civilian population.

21:50 Financial Times: Western countries are increasingly concerned about the deepening cooperation between Russia and Türkiye.
● This came from interlocutors of the publication on the results of the talks between Putin and Erdogan in Sochi, held yesterday.
● Washington has repeatedly warned about the possibility of imposing secondary sanctions against those countries that will help Russia bypass the sanctions imposed against it.
● A senior Western source told the publication that Brussels could "call on Western firms to either withdraw from relations with Turkey or reduce relations with Turkey, given the risk that may arise in light of Turkey's expansion of relations with Russia."
● However, this assumption was rejected by several other Western interlocutors of the FT. They questioned the feasibility of the move from a practical and legal point of view, and questioned whether it was a good idea.
20:14 ‘24 Channel’ - Estonian Foreign Minister: “Putin's goal is complete control over Ukraine. The force of arms and willpower of the Western countries must stop the Putin regime on the path of aggression. Only immediate and inevitable retribution for criminal acts, the strength of the Ukrainian army and the willpower of the Western world will be able to stop the killer,” Reinsalu says.
● According to him, it is now necessary to realize that the war initiated by Putin is a threat to the whole world.

● Tsikhotsky said that he had no doubts about the victory of Ukraine, unless there was "some kind of incomprehensible turn" that would force the West to abandon support for Kyiv.
● However, he noted that the victory of Ukraine is a matter of time, the scale of destruction and casualties.
13:08: The mayor of Hiroshima spoke out against Putin on the anniversary of the nuclear bombing.
● "By invading Ukraine, the Russian leader, chosen to protect the life and property of his people, uses them as instruments of war, depriving the lives and livelihoods of civilians in another country,"- Kazumi Matsui said during commemorative events on the occasion of 77 th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima.

10:14 British Intelligence:
● Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, at least six Russian commanders have been dismissed and 10 Russian generals have been killed
● The poor performance of Russia’s armed forces during its invasion of Ukraine has been costly for Russia’s military leadership, highly likely resulting in the dismissal of at least six Russian commanders since the start of hostilities in February 2022.
○ The commanders of Russia’s Eastern and Western Military Districts have highly likely lost their commands.
○ General-Colonel Aleksandr Chayko was dismissed as Commander of the Eastern Military District in May 2022.
○ General-Colonel Aleksandr Zhuravlev, who has commanded the Western Military District since 2018, was absent from Russia’s Navy Day in St Petersburg on 31 July 2022 and has highly likely been replaced by General-Lieutenant Vladimir Kochetkov.
○ General Aleksandr Dvornikov has subsequently been removed after being given overall command of the operation in Ukraine, and General Sergei Surovikin has assumed command of the Southern Grouping of Forces from General Gennady Zhidko.
○ These dismissals are compounded by at least 10 Russian Generals killed on the battlefield in Ukraine. The cumulative effect on the consistency of command is likely contributing to Russian tactical and operational difficulties.

It [Enerhodar - ed.] is 50 km from Zaporizhzhia, but to get to the town is possible only after travelling 140 km - it needs to make a big detour. If the Russian troops are pushed beyond the right bank and start moving from our territory, they will withdraw themselves. Now the Russians are using the station as a shelter from shelling,"" says Starukh.

● "The EU condemns Russia's military activities around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. This is a serious and irresponsible violation of nuclear safety rules and yet another example of Russia's disregard for international norms. The IAEA should get access," -Borrell wrote on Twitter.
