“Ukraine’s Guerrilla War Against Ukraine is Making Putin Pay a High Price,” by Alexander Motyl.   His article lists several partisan attacks against Russian forces and civilian collaborators.  

·       The planning for partisan action in Southern Ukraine, in the territory often referred to as the “land bridge” from southern Russia to Crimea, has been going on for over 7 years.  I first learned about it in January 2015, from a former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine.   In the Spring of 2014, many believed that Russia would try to annex this territory, located along the Sea of Azov.   It is likely that the Russians believed that the local population, largely Russian speaking, would do it for them.  They were wrong.

·       As Motyl describes, partisan attacks are taking place all over temporarily occupied Ukraine, including Luhansk Oblast, the portions of Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts that have been occupied since 2014, Mariupol, Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov, and even in several places in Crimea where a drone damaged the HQ of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, forcing Russia to call off Navy Day celebrations.

·       It is quite possible that weapons deliveries to Ukraine, that Western observers say are being stolen or diverted, are in fact ending up in the hands of Ukrainian partisans and they are helping to fuel the rising level of partisan attacks.

Partisan attacks described by Motyl are taking on a life of their own, and they are one more indication that even in the very unlikely event of a ceasefire being negotiated between Ukraine and Russia, involving Ukraine ceding territory, Ukraine will keep fighting.   Countries like Germany, France, Turkey, and elements in the United States, need to understand this.

In his latest, Denys believes that Russia now has as many as 30,000 troops on the Right Bank of the Dnieper River in Kherson Oblast.   Denys thinks that Russia will launch an offensive against Mykolaiv and Kryvyi Rih, with the objective of trying to get Germany and France to force Ukraine to the negotiating table.   He thinks that because Ukraine can cut off the Russians operating on the Right Bank, Russia will be defeated.   It seems as if Russia may have come the same conclusion, as reports suggest that Russia is setting up booby traps at critical infrastructure sites in Kherson City, as if to prepare for an eventual re-taking of Kherson.  

This is a 2nd video, very short, shows what happens to a Russian Kamaz truck when it hits a landmine.   If seen another report implying that this may’ve been a suicide attempt by the driver.

What if Russia is defeated? -  Interview with Sir Richard Barrons, former Head of the UK’s Joint Forces Command.   I think that there are many in the West, including a few in senior policy-making positions, who are more afraid of a Ukrainian victory than a Ukrainian defeat, and what a Ukrainian victory might cause inside Russia, causing them to want a “negotiated settlement.”

10:52: Estonia and Poland are in favour of strengthening sanctions against Russia for armed aggression against Ukraine and they support Kyiv’s EU membership, says the Foreign Ministers of the two countries Zbigniew Rau and Urmas Reinsalu.

●        Rau said that Poland and Estonia, through political, diplomatic and military support, want Ukraine "not to be left alone in the fight against the aggressor".

10:40: Russia has already used 50% of its resources in the war, says American diplomat, former special representative of the US State Department for Ukraine, Kurt Volker.

●        “Russia has already used about 50% of its trained military and weapons. Their military capabilities have been dramatically reduced. ●        However, this assumption was rejected by several other Western interlocutors of the FT.  They questioned the feasibility of the move from a practical and legal point of view, and questioned whether it was a good idea.

●        "Serious progress" is planned for the use of Russian "Myr" cards in Türkiye.

14:00 Polska Times - Polish Ambassador to Ukraine: The Armed Forces of Ukraine could have saved Mariupol if they had received HIMARS earlier

●        Tsikhotsky said that he had no doubts about the victory of Ukraine, unless there was "some kind of incomprehensible turn" that would force the West to abandon support for Kyiv.

●        Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, at least six Russian commanders have been dismissed and 10 Russian generals have been killed

●        The poor performance of Russia’s armed forces during its invasion of Ukraine has been costly for Russia’s military leadership, highly likely resulting in the dismissal of at least six Russian commanders since the start of hostilities in February 2022.

○        The commanders of Russia’s Eastern and Western Military Districts have highly likely lost their commands.

○        General-Colonel Aleksandr Chayko was dismissed as Commander of the Eastern Military District in May 2022.

○        These dismissals are compounded by at least 10 Russian Generals killed on the battlefield in Ukraine. The cumulative effect on the consistency of command is likely contributing to Russian tactical and operational difficulties.

●        The missiles were launched from Belgorod, Russia, presumably of S-300 type. There is the destruction of civil industrial and critical infrastructure in the Industrial and Nemyshlianskyi regions. No casualties.   

●        S-300s are primarily anti-aircraft missiles.  Their use in a surface-to-surface mode, where they tend to be inaccurate, may suggest that Russia is running out of their primary stocks.

●        In the Novobavarskyi district, the missile «hit» the ground near one of the parks. There was no damage or injuries. Russians attacked the Bohodukhiv, Izium, Chuhuiv and Kharkiv districts.

●        25 hectares of the harvest were destroyed in one day. The Russians twice struck the farms in the Bohodukhiv district. There were large-scale fires in the fields of wheat.

●        Russians also shelled populated areas in the Chuhuiv district; outbuildings were burning. In the Izium district, because of the shelling of Russians, a private house with an additional building was burned. There also was a hit on the open territories.\According to the regional emergency medical centre, two people were hospitalized within 24 hours - a 16-year-old boy and an 83-year-old man from the Chuhuiv district. Both had suffered from a mine explosion.
