The Churches on Islesboro, Maine
A week ago, last Sunday, the 2nd Baptist Church and Christ’s Church (Episcopalian/Anglican on the island of Islesboro, Maine, held an ecumenical service for Ukraine. Together, the two churches raised $2,260.00 for a Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the city of Bila Tsirkva, 50 miles south of Kyiv, to help in their work supporting local territorial defense units, and refugees who have relocated to Bila Tsirkva from regions of Ukraine that are temporarily occupied by Russia or are suffering from continual Russian shelling and rocket attacks. Our thanks to everyone involved for making this happen.
There are many other churches in Ukraine, both Ukrainian Orthodox and Greek Catholic, that are doing similar work in their communities. If any recipient is a member of a church that might want to establish a relationship with a church in Ukraine, similar to what was achieved by the churches on Islesboro please let us know. We’d be happy to facilitate.
“The McGuyvered Weapons in Ukraine’s Arsenal” (New York Times)
This article describes how Ukraine has been able to modify weapons systems it has received from the West, and develop its own weapons systems, and use them in novel ways. Examples include
· Mounting the Neptune missile, developed in Ukraine by incorporating improved electronics, and using it to sink the “Moskva,” flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, in an attack that included the Bayraktar drone, not to attack the Moskva, but in a supporting role diverting Moskva’s air search radar away from the incoming Neptunes.
· Incorporating the HARMS missile, an anti-radiation weapon supplied by the U.S., to work with the MiG-29. The HARMS may well have been used to attack the Saky Airfield in Crimea.
· Modifying commercial drones, purchased over the counter, to work in both reconnaissance and attack configurations.
The implication is that Ukraine has now moved beyond any restrictions the West might want to impose on Ukraine’s decision making on whether, and where, to attack Russian installations, either in occupied Crimea or within Russia itself.

20:12 Bild: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, spoke against the launch of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, because the Russian Federation uses pipelines as a weapon and a lever of influence.
● She said that Russia's cheap gas was a self-delusion, given the energy crisis caused by the shutdown of Nord Stream 1 gas supplies.
● Russia’s “cheap gas” has always been a delusion. Economists like to use the term “externalities,” when describing factors that aren’t included in the price of a good or service but should be. The price of Russian gas has lots of externalities that Germany didn’t include in their price calculations. Germany is now paying up. To use another favorite term of economists, “there is no free lunch.”

● "Very simple: when Putin finally stops bombing innocent people and withdraws his tanks. Putin could give the order at any moment," Burbok said.
● This assumes that Ukraine wants a truce, at a time when Russian troops are still present on Ukrainian territory. It begs the question – what planet is the German Foreign Minister on?
14:37 BBC: The General Director of FC "Shakhtar" Serhii Palkin strongly disagreed with the World Football Federation's (FIFA) failure to exclude the terrorist country Russia from the ranks of the organization.
● If we look at Russia, they are doing well, they are playing for themselves, there are many people in the stadiums, they are doing well. It is surprising to me that FIFA does not react to this situation in general. Why is Russia still a member of FIFA? They destroyed our entire country, destroyed the lives of Ukrainians and also destroyed our Ukrainian football. It is necessary (FIFA, - ed.) to take one position or another,"- said Palkin.

10:49 Center for Counteracting Disinformation: The Russians have created a disinformation letter for IAEA representatives and are collecting signatures of the population of Enerhodar under a statement in which they demand an end to the bombing of the nuclear plant “by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.”
● "This is a manipulation aimed at misleading the population of the temporarily occupied territories and IAEA inspections", - notes The Center for Counteracting Disinformation.
● Moreover, Russians are torturing employees of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to force them not to tell IAEA inspectors about the risks to the normal operation of the plant.
● "In this way, the Rashists artificially create conditions for the IAEA to record the conclusions they need, and blame Ukraine for all the problems", - warns the Center for Counteracting Disinformation.
10:45 : "All five are denied visas": The Russian woman told how her family was not allowed into Germany because the consuls believe that they will not return to Russia.

10:02 WSJ: Russian Federation wants to strengthen the offensive. Russia brings new equipment and volunteers to Ukraine.
● Russia is moving to significantly bolster its forces in Ukraine as its campaign to secure territory in the country’s east and south stalls ahead of planned plebiscites on annexation by Russia.
● Conflict Intelligence Team, an open-source investigative group, on Saturday posted photographs of Russian military equipment on railcars, including Buk surface-to-air missile systems and T-90 tanks, that it said were heading to Russia’s border with eastern Ukraine.
09:08 : The Kremlin likely directed a media outlet closely affiliated with Moscow to criticize the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, for failing to incentivize the recruitment of volunteer battalions within the city.
● The government was to facilitate the recruitment of volunteer battalions "Neva", "Kronstadt" and "Pavlovsk" based in Saint Petersburg.
● But since early July, there have been only 100 volunteers in a city of 5 million people.
● At the same time, Russia appears to be relying more on Slavic Russians, such as those from St. Petersburg, to replenish their Army.
08:50 Ukrainiska Pravda: Independent Russia Media reports that Russian Minister of Defense Shoigu no longer has operational command.

14:10 Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense: Russian occupiers and collaborators in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region prepared a pseudo-historical manual for September 1, where they claim that Prince Volodymyr baptized Kyivan Rus in Chersonese, and Moscow is supposedly older than Kyiv. Most of the quotes from the Russians' manual contradict not only historical facts, but also common sense.
This is an example of the Russian inferiority complex, that today is playing a major role in Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine but goes back several centuries. Russia has never come to accept that their entire culture derives from the Kyivan Rus, at a time when Muscovy wasn’t much more than a group of mud huts.
13:49 : The woman who set fire to the car of the deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation in Moscow thought that she herself was participating in a "special operation".

● Relatives believe that Bilova simply fell under the hypnosis of fraudsters, because she supports the "special operation" and she herself would never go to set fire to a car, let alone a military commander. At night, Olena was released from the police.

They produce gas turbines for both military and commercial use, and jet engines for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Motor Sich had been an object of a takeover bid by a Chinese company, halted by a ruling from Ukraine’s Antimonopoly Commission. The fact that Motor Sich had not been targeted by Russia until now, more than 6 months into the war, suggests that Russia may have finally given up on the idea of ever bringing Motor Sich back into Russian hands.
